Three children who attended the Washington County Agriculture Fair last month contracted a rare form of swine flu, but it’s unclear if that’s where they caught the virus.

The H1N1 vaccine, which protects against the swine flu, will be part of the seasonal flu shots.
The question is whether those shots will arrive before swine flu returns to northwestern Pennsylvania.
Flu vaccine is usually available in October, right when the swine-flu outbreak hit in 2009.
“It still takes six months to manufacture a vaccine,” said Howard Nadworny, M.D., Saint Vincent Health Center’s chief of infection control. “We received our seasonal vaccine just before the H1N1 outbreak, though it didn’t contain H1N1. This year it will be in the seasonal vaccine.”

State health officials say the federal government has allocated nearly 3 million doses of swine flu vaccine to Pennsylvania so far.
As of Monday, officials say the vaccine has been distributed to more than 1,600 certified providers. They include pediatricians, family health practitioners, obstetricians, hospitals, schools, colleges and universities.
