According to today’s Scranton Times-Tribune, Pennsylvania’s program to aide the uninsured, AdultBasic, may need to cut its rolls by 50,000 due to lost funding from the state’s Blues insurance plans.

The Blues contribute dollars to the AdultBasic program through the Community Reinvestment Fund, but that source of money is due to expire December 31, when the legislation that enacted the fund expires.

The House Insurance Committee will be holding a hearing on this issue and there are currently efforts underway to consider extending the Community Revinvestment Fund through the Blues or look outside to other insurance companies doing business in the Commonwealth.

With the promise of insurance expansion to cover the uninsured through healthcare reform, all eyes are on this program to see if it can weather this financial storm.
