Several stories about UPMC made the rounds this week.
The biggest story of the week was yesterday, when UPMC announced that it is creating a $294 million research facility that will focus on personalized medicine and the biology of cancer and aging.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the UPMC Center for Innovative Science, scheduled for completion in late 2014, is expected to create 375 new scientific and administrative jobs; and will involve the renovation of the old Ford Motor Co. building.

Next up we have an update on UPMC Hamot. As you’ll recall, Hamot Medical Center in Erie joined the UPMC network, becoming UPMC Hamot, in February. Erie residents worried that the move would cost their region jobs– however, the news shows that the opposite has happened. The medical center has hired 225 full-time employees since becoming affiliated with UPMC.
Finally, the Associated Press is reporting that UPMC’s end of year fiscal report shows strong growth in revenue, earnings and admissions. Check out that story here.
