Yesterday the Senate Banking & Insurance Committee unanimously approved the bill that would both:

- Give the Insurance Dept. regulatory power over the proposed merger of Highmark Inc. and Independence Blue Cross, the state’s largest two health insurance companies; and

- Require insurance companies to provide coverage for autism services and colorectal cancer screening.

HB 1150 now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
