A statewide United Way program that provides discount prescription drug cards to individuals and families, saving them an average of about $17 per perscription, is receiving rave reviews from those who take advantage of the program.
Statewide, there have been more than 33,000 claims since the program began in June 2006.
Reporting on the program’s success in Schuykill County, the Republican Herald writes:
“…while not limited to senior citizens, the majority of applicants so far have been the elderly.
‘An elderly woman came to our offices one day and wrote out a check towards our 2009 campaign explaining that we had saved her that amount of money (with the prescription card),’ [Schuykill United Way community relations director] Tarah Dove said.”
