McNeil’s plant in Ft. Washington recently announced that it plans to lay off approximately 300 of its “over 400″ workers. The announcement is following a massive recall initiated by Johnson and Johnson (its parent company) on April 30th. The company recalled over 140 million bottles of children’s Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, and Benadryl, citing manufacturing problems at three plants, including the Ft. Washginton location.
The Adolor corporation is also laying off approximately 30 workers, or approximately 30% of its workforce. Its CEO, Michael Dougherty, stated that the company needed to restructure as it is “fiscally responsible” move, ensuring that the company could operate for two years without any near-term need to raise capital.
