The Pittsburgh Post Gazette:
“A glimpse of health care’s fast-approaching future is coming into view at two local community hospitals, where chief information officers are setting up networks that will allow quick access to critical patient information from the field as well as better coordination of patients’ ongoing care.
St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon and the Butler Health System in Butler are building what’s called a health information exchange, using software from GE Healthcare.
When completed, physician notes, surgical notes, lab results and referrals will be equally accessible to the emergency room doctor who’s seeing the patient for the first time as to the patient’s primary care physician in an office miles away.”
