Governor Ed Rendell announced today that he will nominate Everette James, formerly of the Clinton Administration, to serve as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The appointment will be effective Sept. 27. If confirmed by the state Senate, James will succeed Dr. Calvin Johnson, who resigned to return to the private sector.
Rendell’s release states:
“Everette’s extensive knowledge of the health care industry has made him an invaluable advisor on the most complex health issues facing the commonwealth,” Governor Rendell said. “In times like these, we need a seasoned regulator to ensure that our hospitals and nursing homes are sound and provide our citizens access to quality health care. We also need to make sure that scarce state and federal dollars are used to serve the Pennsylvanians who need them the most. Everette is the right person for the job.”
