Radio ads highlighting the opportunity for health insurance expansion for the uninsured have begun running on three Pennsylvania radio outlets, according to a press release by the Pennsylvania Health Access Network (PHAN), the coalition which released the ads and is a vocal supporter of SB 1137, or Pennsylvania Access to Basic Care (PA ABC).

The ads, which mention senators Joe Scarnati, Bob Regola and Jim Rhoades, began running earlier this month on WCNS-AM in Latrobe and WAVT-FM in Pottsville.  This week ads began running on WDDH-FM in St. Marys.

“We are trying to let the public know the Pennsylvania Senate has an opportunity to make substantial progress toward improving health care access and reducing health care costs,” said Berry Friesen, PHAN’s Public Affairs Manager. “Senate Bill 1137, as passed by the House and supported by the Governor, would provide affordable health care coverage to 250,000 Pennsylvanians who don’t have insurance today. The bill has been languishing in the Senate Rules Committee since March 18. As people become aware of this, we expect they will tell their senator to move the House bill.”

Republican senators are revealing their own version of a health care plan, HealthNET PA, this morning.
