Reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
Highmark Inc. said Wednesday it is alerting 3,700 customers that a billing statement mailed to their employer including personal financial information has been tampered with.
The statement was mailed from Highmark in Pittsburgh on Jan. 12 to a group health insurance customer, Boscov’s Department Store’s, which is headquartered in Reading. The 3,700 people are the retailers’ employees and retirees.
Information in the mailing included Social Security numbers imbedded in individuals’ identification numbers, Highmark chief privacy officer Lisa Martinelli said.
About 2,600 of the names and I.D. numbers involved people who live in Pennsylvania, she said, but it was unclear how many of them live in the Pittsburgh region. The 3,700 are scattered in 13 states, Martinelli said. Boscov’s operates 39 department stores, including Pittsburgh-area stores at Beaver Valley Mall and Clearview Mall in Butler.
