From Central Penn Business Journal:

More than 300 people were in attendance today for the last of three forums on health insurance exchanges hosted by the Pennsylvania Insurance Department at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey.

Health insurance exchanges will be designed as a one-stop resource for individuals and businesses looking to buy health insurance, listing a variety of options from which to choose.

“Under federal health care reform, states can develop their own exchanges or default to the federal government,” Insurance Commissioner Mike Consedine said in a statement.

Consumers and medical providers shared thoughts on health insurance exchange possibilities, said Rosanne Placey, department press secretary. The Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children and health insurance agencies also participated, she said.

Each group presented its perspective on how best to set up the exchanges, she said. Generally, insurers express views about a level playing field, consumers want transparency and accountability, and small businesses want affordable options, Placey said.
