Stuart H. Shapiro, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Health Care Association, has an opinion piece in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer in which he applauds President Obama’s move toward health care reform but denounces the cuts to Medicare and Medicaid which will help fund the effort.

“These cuts could not come at a worse time,” writes Shapiro. “Residents who are 65 or older currently make up 13 percent of the population. But their number will double to 88.5 million by mid-century. The baby boomers will continue padding the senior population until it accounts for one in five U.S. residents by 2030….Obama’s proposed universal health care has undeniable appeal. He has rightfully earned high marks for fighting to expand health care. But at what cost? And to whom?”
