Ever wonder why PA pharmacies whose national chains offer a $4 prescription nationwide don’t offer the program in our state?
It’s because a 1941 law that prohibits businesses from selling goods below cost. 56 precriptions, reports the Patriot-News, have to sell for $9 or more instead. Sen. Pat Vance has introduced a bill that would make pharmacies exempt from the law, but it hasn’t gone anywhere since.
According to the story, “When asked about the level of support from the public, Vance said only a few constituents have contacted her about lack of access to $4 medications.” The director of PACE and PACENET supports the bill.
