The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors unanimously supported a resolution expressing their opposition towards the proposed Aria Health Hospital to be built in Lower Makefield. The proposed hospital is 375,000-square-feet, with a 40,000-square-foot medical office building and a 40,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center.
The Hospital’s proposed location, Route 332 and Stony Hill Road, already experiences “substantial vehicular traffic” – the hospital would increase this traffic by 20%. A group of residents opposing the construction applauded the Township Board’s decision.
The Lower Makefield Board of Supervisors is, along with the Hospital, appealing the decision by the zoning board as the Hospital needs an exemption because the space was intended for office-research development. The Hospital would need to build road improvements and alter their work-shift schedule to not conflict with rush hour.
