Reports the York Dispatch:
More than 40 York County bars got word last week they are approved for exceptions to the state’s smoking ban.
The ban went into effect Sept. 11 and eliminates cigarette, pipe and cigar use in restaurants, some taverns and other places of business.
More than 3,000 businesses statewide have applied to take advantage of exceptions to the ban, said Stacy Kreideman, spokeswoman with the Pennsylvania Department of Health. More than 40 bars in York County — and 550 statewide — were sent notifications last week signifying approval under one of the permitted exceptions.
More notifications are expected to go out shortly.
