The Scranton Times-Tribune reports:
Two local hospitals were ranked in the top 5 percent nationwide for quality and clinical excellence by an independent organization that examines patient mortality and complication rates.
HealthGrades.com released the list last week as part of its annual Hospital Quality and Clinical Excellence study. The region came in at No. 23 in a list of Top 50 Cities for Hospital Care, just behind Houston and ahead of La Crosse/Eau Claire, Wis.
Both Mercy Hospital in Scranton and Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg were ranked in the top 5 percent, as were 15 other hospitals across the state.
