Yesterday, Sen. Jeff Piccola (R-Dauphin), joined by about 20 midstate lawmakers, held a press conference, saying it’s unnacceptable for Governor Rendell to use state employees as “pawns” in the budget negotiations, reports the Patriot-News.

Rendell’s spokesman Chuck Ardo fires back that the lawmakers could avoid the furlough situation altogether if they would just meet their statutory deadline: having the budget passed by June 30th.
