In a letter published today in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the board chairs of both Independence Blue Cross and Highmark, Inc. voice their disagreement with the Inquirer’s editorial published Aug. 20.

The chairs say that in the editorial, the Inquirer misled its readers about what they say would be the benefits of a merger between the two companies.

The letter’s writers particularly take exception to the newspaper’s explanations of the company executives’ salaries, their not-for-profit and taxpaying status, and the reasons behind their proposed merger.
