In western PA, UPMC and Highmark are in a dispute over their hospital and physician contracts, but those who have government sponsored health insurance such as Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) will not have any interruption in their coverage, regardless of the outcome.
The two entities issued a joint statement yesterday, saying “Highmark and UPMC want to jointly assure all Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Plan (CHIP) subscribers and patients that their in-network access to UPMC hospitals and physicians will not be affected by the changes in the contractual relationships between Highmark and UPMC.”
