Reports the Central Penn Business Journal:

“Highmark Inc. is rolling out a system that will allow its customers to get a real-time quote on how much a procedure will cost.

The company is releasing the technology in two phases: 250 providers began using it in November, and all network providers will be able to use it beginning in April 2009.

Part of Highmark’s reason for introducing the system stems from the growth of its high-deductible, coinsurance and other cost-sharing health-insurance plans.”
