PHILADELPHIA, October 28State Sen. Leanna M. Washington (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) announced today that the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee will join Philadelphia City Council’s Public Health and Human service Committee for a joint hearing in Philadelphia on issues affecting veterans and their families.

“I am pleased that we will start a dialogue on this crucial issue,” Washington said.  “It is due time to discuss how we can improve conditions for our American heroes and their families.”

The hearing will take place on Thursday, October 30 at 1 p.m. in the Philadelphia City Council chambers.

The committees will hear testimony from federal, state, and local officials on the overall status of veterans’ affairs, as well as, specific comments on healthcare, homelessness, and gender specific needs of veterans.

“It is important that the public, especially those veterans and their families, be allowed to discuss the issues plaguing Pennsylvania veterans and provide input on how we can improve these conditions,” Washington said.

The hearing is a result of a Philadelphia City Council Resolution calling for hearings regarding health, financial, and quality of life issues of veterans.
