GlaxoSmithKline will heed the FDA’s recommendations and suspend adding new patients to their Avandia study. Patients currently enrolled in the trial may remain so. The panel, after hearing testimony from some experts who believe the drug may increase user’s risk for heart attacks, voted 20-12 to recommend the drug stay on the market. GSK has stated it believes the diabetes medicine does not increase the risk for heart attack, stroke, or death, and will continue to work with the FDA to investigate the accusations.
