According to The NY Times, the FDA has approved the first treatment that gives limited vision to the blind with a device called an artificial retina. The artificial retina, a sheet of electrodes implanted in the eye, works with a pair of glasses that have a camera and a portable video processor called Argus II. These systems allow visual signals to be transmitted to the brain.
