From The Tribune Review:
Without West Penn Hospital’s emergency room, Ilia Forouzan says her mother would be dead.
“Having the hospital there saved my mother’s life,” said Forouzan of Bloomfield, who explained that her mother, Gloria, suffered a heart attack. “If she would have had to go to a hospital farther away, things wouldn’t have worked out.”
About 300 residents and West Penn Hospital employees complained to West Penn Allegheny Health System officials Wednesday night at a meeting at Immaculate Conception School in Bloomfield about the hospital network’s plans to lay off 1,500 employees and consolidate operations at two hospitals. The plan includes closing the emergency department at West Penn Hospital in Bloomfield.

Not to sound skeptical about a serious issue that obviously affects a lot of people negatively but really, someone would have died if it weren’t for West Penn in Bloomfield? Shadyside Hospital is what – 4 blocks away? I do feel really bad about the employees but let’s keep things in perspective.
