The House Insurance Committee has scheduled 2 hearings Monday and Tuesday in Erie.  Monday’s hearing is on the proposed Blues’ Merger and Tuesday’s hearing focuses on the House Democrat’s PA ABC plan, to cover the uninsured.

Although the final decision about the Blues merger will be in the hands of the Insurance Department, the Legislature’s health committees are free to hold hearings to gather their input on the situation.  The proposal is currently in the public comment phase of the process.  After public comment closes, the Legislature has 45 days to submit their recommendations to the Insurance Department.  Therefore, if you have an interest in the hearings or the merger please feel free to attend any of the upcoming Legislative hearings.

In rural areas, in urban areas one issue that is very important in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is public, affordable, universal healthcare. The struggle goes on in competition and affordable health services to all.

Rural areas in Pennsylvania often times lack health services that urban areas enjoy. To meet the needs of citizens in rural areas and less populated areas in counties such as Erie, Crawford &Mercer for example new views are needed to provide public, affordable universal healthcare to help the rural populations of Pennsylvania.

As the Pennsylvania Insurance Committee holds hearing one key question is how competition can be increased and public affordable health services can expand & reach those in need in rural communities. Pennsylvania can do better, the nation can do better to address rural populations & urban populations.

    Sincerely,
    William D. Hawes
